Tim Rhoades never expected to leave law enforcement for restoration work. Yet today, as the owner of Premier Restoration of the Carolinas, he leads a business built around helping families and communities recover from disaster. Based in Wilkes County, North Carolina, Premier Restoration specializes in handling floods, fires, and mold—offering clean slates and fresh starts when people need them most.
Rhoades’s journey began humbly. About eight years ago, while still working in law enforcement and with his wife teaching school, the couple began cleaning air ducts in the evenings to earn extra income. What started as a small side hustle gradually grew. Eventually, he made the difficult decision to leave his law enforcement career behind and pursue air duct cleaning full-time.
The pivotal moment came when acquaintances offered him the opportunity to buy Premier Restoration. They were ready to retire and believed he had the integrity and work ethic to carry the company forward. Two years ago, Rhoades stepped into ownership—and hasn’t slowed down since.
What sets Premier Restoration apart from large national chains isn’t just the services offered—it’s Rhoades himself. He doesn’t delegate disaster recovery from behind a desk. When a home floods or a fire leaves a property in ruins, he personally shows up with his crew.
“When the owner of the company walks through the door to help clean up your mess, it means something,” says Rhoades. That genuine presence has become the heartbeat of Premier Restoration. It builds trust, and trust has fueled the company’s growth through word-of-mouth referrals rather than expensive ad campaigns.
A major test of that philosophy came during Hurricane Helene, which slammed Western North Carolina and East Tennessee. Restoration requests surged overnight, and the team had to navigate a fast-paced and emotionally charged environment. Amid the chaos, Rhoades and his business partners realized they had different long-term goals, leading to a tough but necessary decision to part ways. Today, Rhoades operates the business independently, with renewed focus and clarity.
Tim Rhoades’s commitment to his work is matched by his connection to his land and lifestyle. He runs a 100-acre cattle farm and recently added a glamping retreat to the property. The balance between emergency response and quiet moments in the pasture offers him perspective. “It reminds me why I do what I do—to bring peace back into people’s lives when they need it most,” he says.
Premier Restoration currently serves Wilkes, Ashe, Avery, Alexander, Watauga counties and Beech Mountain, with plans to expand further into East Tennessee. Despite this growth, Rhoades vows to keep the business grounded in its small-town values. Clients aren’t just getting a service—they’re getting him, and a team that genuinely cares.
Whether tackling mold behind walls or hauling out soggy drywall after a flood, Rhoades leads with heart, grit, and purpose. His story is a testament to how unexpected paths can lead to deeply meaningful work—and how restoration isn't just about property, but people.
